Reculver Beach

Reculver Beach stretches below the dramatic ruins of Reculver Towers, the twin spires of a twelfth-century church built within the walls of an earlier Roman fort on the clifftop above. The beach is a mix of shingle, sand and exposed rock platforms, backed by low clay cliffs and the open expanse of Reculver Country Park. The setting is genuinely atmospheric, with the towers visible for miles along the coast and the beach feeling wilder and more exposed than the resort beaches of Herne Bay to the west. At low tide, the beach extends considerably and rock pools emerge among the clay and chalk platforms.

Dogs are welcome year-round at Reculver Beach with no restrictions, and the open, uncrowded character makes it one of the better dog-friendly options on the north Kent coast. The mix of terrain provides good sensory variety for dogs, with rock pools, seaweed, driftwood and exposed clay all contributing to an engaging walk. The beach is exposed to northerly winds and can feel bleak in poor weather, but in calm conditions it offers a genuinely rewarding coastal experience. The country park above has parking, toilets, and a seasonal cafe. The Viking Coastal Trail passes through for those wanting to extend their walk in either direction.
