Rest Bay

Rest Bay is a wide sandy beach on the western edge of Porthcawl in Bridgend, popular with surfers and backed by a long promenade that extends the walking options beyond the sand. The open bay creates a spacious feel, particularly when the tide is out and the beach stretches generously toward the waterline. The surrounding clifftop paths and links golf course add to the coastal character, and the beach facilities — including a cafe and car park right at the shore — make logistics straightforward.

This dog friendly beach has seasonal restrictions from May to September under the Bridgend PSPO, so check signage before visiting in summer. Outside the restricted period, the wide sands offer excellent off-lead space for running and play. This is a surf beach with possible rip tides, so dogs should be supervised near the water, but the firm sand and open aspect make it superb walking territory. The promenade provides a useful alternative route when the tide is high, and nearby Porthcawl offers dog friendly refreshment options.
