Salcombe South Sands

Salcombe South Sands is a Blue Flag beach a ten-minute walk south of North Sands, or a short journey by the South Sands Ferry from Salcombe town. The cove is sheltered and tends to trap sun, giving it a reputation for warmth on days when other nearby beaches feel exposed. The South Sands Hotel and spa sits directly above the beach, and the hotel cafe provides food and drink with views across the water. The setting is one of the more polished on the South Devon coast, and the ferry connection to Salcombe makes it easy to combine a day here with a visit to the town without needing to move the car.

South Sands operates a strict seasonal dog ban between 1 May and 30 September on a 24-hour basis, which is one of the more restrictive policies in the area. The only exception during the restricted period is for dogs crossing the sand on leads when the ferry is operating, allowing them to embark and disembark. Outside the restricted months, the beach is fully open to dogs and the sheltered, generally calm water makes it a pleasant autumn and winter option. Dog owners visiting in summer will find North Sands a short walk away with year-round access and comparable facilities.
