Seatown Beach

Dorset

Dog Friendly Rating: 6/10 A quiet, atmospheric shingle beach beneath Golden Cap, best visited outside the summer restriction period.

Seatown Beach sits at the foot of a narrow lane winding down from the village of Chideock in Dorset, framed by two of the Jurassic Coast's most impressive landmarks — Golden Cap, the highest point on England's south coast, rising to the east, and Thorncombe Beacon to the west. The beach is mostly shingle, curving gently between the headlands, and the South West Coast Path passes directly through the village. It feels remote and unhurried compared to busier Dorset beaches, and even on good days you will often have space to yourself.

This dog friendly beach does not permit dogs from May to September under the Dorset PSPO. Outside those months, dogs enjoy off-lead freedom on the open shingle, with rich tideline scenting along the exposed seaweed and wet stone. The shingle is firm enough for comfortable walking, and the dramatic cliff setting makes every visit feel special. The Anchor Inn in the village is dog friendly and popular with coast path walkers, making this an ideal combination of beach walk and warm pub lunch through the autumn and winter months.
