Titchwell Beach

Norfolk

Dog Friendly Rating: 8/10 A wide, sandy beach accessed via the spectacular RSPB Titchwell Marsh reserve with no beach restrictions, though dogs must be kept on leads on the mile-long path through the reserve.

Titchwell Beach is a wide, sandy and often overlooked gem on the North Norfolk coast, accessed via the RSPB Titchwell Marsh Nature Reserve and requiring an easy mile-long walk along the West Bank path to reach it. The walk is exceptional in its own right: the path passes freshwater lagoons, reedbeds, tidal pools and woodland, all teeming with wildlife that the RSPB reserve is internationally famous for protecting. The beach itself is wide and sandy, backed by low dunes, with far-reaching views west to Brancaster and east to Thornham at low tide when the sand extends for seemingly endless distances. The RSPB visitor centre adjacent to the car park has a cafe (dogs on leads, outside terrace only), toilets, an information desk and binocular hire.

Once on the beach, there are no dog restrictions, and the beach is dog friendly year-round. However, the West Bank path through the nature reserve is the only permitted route for dogs, and dogs must be kept on leads for the full length of the path to protect the reserve's birds and habitats. The RSPB car park is pay-and-display for non-members; RSPB members park free. Despite the lead requirement on the path, the beach itself offers a superb off-lead environment for dogs, and the combination of reserve walk and wide open beach makes it an excellent half-day outing.
