Hope Cottage - New Forest

Redlynch, Hampshire

A five star cottage for eight at Redlynch in the New Forest, with lawned enclosed gardens on both sides, a private gate out into the forest, a wood burner and two dogs welcome.

Book now

There is a gate in this garden that opens straight into the forest, private to the cottage, so the first walk out of a morning needs no lane and no car. Hope Cottage runs to four bedrooms and eight beds at Redlynch, five stars, dog friendly accommodation in the south west of the New Forest, two dogs allowed.

Two bedrooms sit at ground level, a twin walled to the ceiling with shelves of books, and a king whose shower room is next door, so a dog and the person it will not sleep away from can both stay flat. You come in to a flagged hall. The lounge has a vaulted beamed ceiling with a wood burner under it, and the dining room across from it takes a table for eight.

The gardens are lawned and enclosed on both sides of the cottage, one off the dining room and the other through the lounge doors, with a swing, a climbing frame and a sand pit on them. The gate is set in that ground, and what it opens onto is not enclosed and is not meant to be, which is the reason two dogs have it there. Upstairs are the bunk room, the family bathroom and a super king over both gardens.

Redlynch has a wooded RSPB reserve for a neighbour, and past the gate the forest runs on further than a week of eight people and two dogs can exhaust. The kitchen window looks onto grazing. The village keeps a pub and not much else, the lanes carry almost nothing, and with its own gate this is a house whose car need not move.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Hope Cottage - New Forest dog friendly?

Yes, Hope Cottage warmly welcomes dogs — up to two are allowed. The cottage has a private gate in the garden that opens directly onto the New Forest, meaning your dogs can be out into the trees first thing in the morning without a car journey or a lane to navigate.

  • Are dogs allowed at Hope Cottage - New Forest year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the owner when booking to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the New Forest itself is a wonderful destination for dogs in any season, with the forest beyond the gate running further than a week of walking can exhaust.

  • What should I know before visiting Hope Cottage - New Forest with my dog?

The maximum is two dogs, so if you're travelling with a larger pack you'll need to plan accordingly. The gardens on both sides of the cottage are lawned and enclosed, which is handy for keeping dogs secure, but the gate beyond opens onto open, unenclosed forest — which is exactly why the two-dog limit is in place. There's also a wooded RSPB reserve nearby in Redlynch, adding yet another option for a day's walk without touching the car.
