Bawsey Country Park Woodland & Lake Walk

Lincolnshire

Dog Friendly Rating: 7/10 A compact but varied loop through woodland trails and former gravel pit lakes, tucked away near King's Lynn with shaded sections throughout.

Bawsey Country Park sits just south of King's Lynn on the site of former gravel workings, now transformed into a compact landscape of woodland, open grassland and clear-water lakes. The 4 km circuit threads through mature mixed woodland before emerging at the lakeside, where the flooded pits have developed into surprisingly attractive bodies of water with sandy margins and overhanging trees. The terrain is flat throughout with only 15 m of total climbing, and the paths are well defined if occasionally uneven where tree roots cross the track. The park has a tucked-away quality despite its proximity to town.

This is a neat little dog friendly walk that delivers more interest than its short distance might suggest. The lakes provide water access at several points, with shallow, sandy entry that suits dogs who prefer to wade rather than plunge. The woodland floor is rich with scent year-round, and the mix of open ground and enclosed canopy keeps the walk varied. Off-lead potential is moderate, with good sections through the quieter woodland where livestock are absent. The uneven ground in places adds texture without being difficult, and the short length makes this ideal for puppies building stamina or older dogs who still enjoy an outing with substance. Parking is available at the main entrance.
