Ingleton Waterfalls Trail

North Yorkshire

Dog Friendly Rating:9/10A privately managed circular trail through two river gorges that strings together six major waterfalls and some of the finest woodland walking in the north of England.

The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is one of the Yorkshire Dales' great spectacles, following the Rivers Twiss and Doe through limestone gorges past a succession of dramatic cascades. The 7 km circuit starts at Broadwood Car Park, climbing alongside Pecca Falls to Thornton Force — a stunning 14-metre clean drop over a limestone cliff — before crossing open ground and descending the Doe valley past Beezley Falls, the viewing bridge above Baxenghyll Gorge, and Snow Falls. The path is one-way, well-surfaced for most of its length, and the geology creates an extraordinary landscape of gorges, moss-covered rock and hanging woodland. Entry fee is around £11 per adult, with parking included.

Dogs are welcome on this dog friendly walk but must be kept on leads throughout — a trail rule rather than a site-specific restriction. Despite the lead requirement, the sensory experience here is exceptional: cold spray from the falls, damp limestone moss, deep oak leaf mould and the constant sound of rushing water create one of the most stimulating environments on any Dales walk. Some sections are stepped and rocky, making this unsuitable for dogs who struggle with uneven ground. Water access from the trail itself is limited despite the river being constantly visible, so bring a bowl and bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Ingleton Waterfalls Trail dog friendly?

Yes, dogs are very welcome on the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, which earns a strong 9/10 for dog friendliness on Wildpack. It's a genuinely rewarding walk for dogs , the combination of cool spray from the falls, mossy limestone, rich woodland smells and the constant sound of rushing water makes for an exceptionally stimulating outing. Just bear in mind the lead rule and entry fee before you set off.

  • Can dogs be off lead at Ingleton Waterfalls Trail?

Dogs must be kept on leads throughout the trail , this is a trail-wide rule rather than anything seasonal or area-specific, so it applies for the full 7 km circuit. It's worth knowing in advance so you can plan accordingly, but plenty of dogs (and their owners) find the walk thoroughly enjoyable on lead given how much there is to take in along the way.

  • What should I know before visiting Ingleton Waterfalls Trail with my dog?

A few things are worth planning for before you arrive. Water access from the path is limited despite the rivers being visible throughout, so bring a bowl and enough water for your dog for the full circuit. The path includes stepped and rocky sections, so it may not suit dogs who struggle with uneven terrain. Entry is around £11 per adult (card only) with parking included at Broadwood Car Park, and there's a cafe on site as well as a seasonal kiosk at Beezley Farm if you need a mid-walk stop.
