Morpeth Riverside and Carlisle Park Walk
Northumberland
This dog friendly circular leaves Carlisle Park in Morpeth, follows the south bank of the River Wansbeck west along the riverside promenade and into the bluebell-carpeted ancient woodland of Bluebell Wood, then returns along the north bank past the William Turner Garden and the bandstand. It's a town walk but it feels surprisingly green and the river noise is constant company.
Dogs are welcome and there's plenty of off-lead opportunity on the wide grassy riverside lawns and inside Bluebell Wood, just keep them on a lead through the formal William Turner Garden, around the playgrounds and crossing the road bridges. No livestock, no ground-nesting bird restrictions, easy underfoot the whole way. The Wansbeck has plenty of shallow access for a paddle. Full town centre cafes and pubs a couple of minutes' walk, toilets and a seasonal kiosk inside Carlisle Park, free parking nearby.
