Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve Circular Walk
Kent
Pegwell Bay Country Park sits on the south Thanet coast above one of the largest saltmarsh and mudflat reserves in southeast England. The country park trails link clifftop grassland with the All England Coast Path that skirts the Sandwich and Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve, looking out over wading birds, hovercraft history and a replica Viking longship. It is dog friendly throughout, with strict lead rules to protect the reserve.
Dogs must be on lead in the car park, in grazing compartments and the All England Coast Path stretches, and a Public Spaces Protection Order bans dogs entirely from the mudflats, saltmarsh, Pegwell beach and upper chalk shore year round. Highland cattle and occasional Konik horses graze the conservation areas, so close control matters. The terrain is flat, well surfaced in places and grassy elsewhere, with toilets and a pay and display car park (around forty spaces) at the trailhead.
