Royal Victoria Country Park Loop

Royal Victoria Country Park sits on the shore of Southampton Water near Netley, occupying the grounds of the former Royal Victoria Military Hospital, a vast Victorian building that was once the largest military hospital in the world. The 4.8km circuit follows woodland trails and open parkland paths along the waterfront, with views across Southampton Water to the container port and the Isle of Wight beyond. The hospital's chapel, now a heritage centre, is the only surviving building, and the park's mature trees and sweeping lawns give it a peaceful, established character. The terrain is entirely flat with just 20 metres of elevation change.

This is an easy, accessible dog friendly walk that works well for dogs of all ages and fitness levels. Off-lead potential is moderate across the open parkland, though leads are sensible near the main visitor areas and the miniature railway. The waterfront provides views and salt air without direct beach access, and the woodland sections carry good scent from leaf litter and undergrowth. Livestock risk is negligible. The park has good facilities including a café that welcomes dogs outside, toilets and ample parking.
