Saltburn Woodland Walk and Valley Gardens

North Yorkshire

Dog Friendly Rating:8/10A gentle wooded stroll through Saltburn's Victorian Valley Gardens to the beach, with tea rooms, a miniature railway and plenty of shade.

Saltburn's Valley Gardens are a sheltered Victorian pleasure garden that runs down to the coast, and this dog friendly walk follows the stream through the woods, past the Italian Gardens and the miniature railway before emerging at the beach and the iconic pier. The woodland is a mix of mature beech, oak and sycamore with a carpet of wild garlic and bluebells in spring, and the gentle gradient makes it a lovely option for families, older dogs or a post-lunch amble.

Dogs can be off lead throughout the gardens and woodland, which are bounded by the valley sides, but a lead is needed near the miniature railway tracks and the road crossings at Glenside and the cat-nap bridge. There are no livestock concerns. The walk pairs beautifully with a return along the Saltburn seafront and a lift back up on the historic cliff tramway if legs are tired. The Tea Rooms at the Woodland Centre welcome dogs in the garden, and there are toilets, play areas and the miniature railway (April to October) for families.
