Speeton Beach
East Yorkshire
Speeton Beach is a wild, secluded cove on the chalk cliffs between Reighton and Flamborough, accessible only via a footpath descent from the clifftop. The beach is small and rocky, backed by dramatic chalk cliffs, and sits at the base of the high chalk headland between Filey Brigg and Flamborough Head. The area is part of the Flamborough Head SSSI and the cliffs support breeding seabirds, including guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes. The remoteness of the location means visitor numbers are very low and the beach has a genuinely wild, unspoiled character.
Speeton Beach is a dog friendly destination with no reported restrictions. The challenging access via cliff descent keeps visitor numbers low and makes it better suited to dogs comfortable with scrambling and rough terrain. The surrounding coastal path along the clifftops connects to Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve to the north and Filey Brigg to the south. No facilities of any kind are available at or near the beach.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Speeton Beach dog friendly?
Yes, Speeton Beach is dog friendly with no reported restrictions, making it a genuinely open destination for dogs year round. Its remote and secluded nature means you're unlikely to encounter crowds, which adds to the appeal for dog owners looking for a peaceful coastal escape.
Are dogs allowed at Speeton Beach year round?
There are no reported seasonal restrictions at Speeton Beach, so dogs are welcome throughout the year. This sets it apart from many popular beaches that impose summer bans, and the wild, low-footfall setting means it stays a calm and unspoiled spot in any season.
What should I know before visiting Speeton Beach with my dog?
The access to Speeton Beach involves a steep footpath descent from the clifftop, so it's best suited to dogs that are comfortable with rough terrain and scrambling — it's not a beach you can simply stroll onto. There are no facilities whatsoever at or near the beach, so bring everything you need, including water for your dog. Filey, around 5km to the south, is the nearest town if you need to stock up before or after your visit.
