Sutton on Sea Beach
Lincolnshire
Sutton on Sea Beach is a well-preserved, relatively quiet beach backed by grassy dunes on the Lincolnshire coast north of Mablethorpe, offering a gentler and more natural alternative to the larger resort beaches. The beach is wide and sandy, backed by dunes and the sea wall, and the village of Sutton on Sea has a traditional seaside character without the full resort infrastructure of Skegness or Mablethorpe. The beach is part of the East Lindsey coastline, and the Lincolnshire Coast Path passes through, providing connections north to Mablethorpe and south to Sandilands.
A seasonal dog ban applies to the central Sutton on Sea beach from 1 May to 30 September under the East Lindsey PSPO. Dogs are welcome from the promenade to the Pullerover on Furlong Road, and also from the end of Main Central Beach in the direction of Trusthorpe. Outside the restricted zone and season, the beach is dog friendly. Trusthorpe, which adjoins Sutton on Sea to the south, carries no central restrictions and is listed as a dog friendly beach year-round. The combination of Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe makes for excellent, varied dog walking on this stretch of coast.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Sutton on Sea Beach dog friendly?
Sutton on Sea Beach is dog friendly, though with some seasonal restrictions in the central section. Dogs are welcome year-round from the promenade to the Pullerover on Furlong Road, and from the end of Main Central Beach towards Trusthorpe. The neighbouring beach at Trusthorpe, which adjoins Sutton on Sea to the south, has no central restrictions at all, making the two beaches a great combination for a longer dog-friendly walk.
Are dogs allowed at Sutton on Sea Beach year round?
Dogs are welcome year-round at both ends of the beach — from the promenade to the Pullerover on Furlong Road, and from the end of Main Central Beach in the direction of Trusthorpe. The central stretch of Sutton on Sea beach is subject to a seasonal ban from 1 May to 30 September under the East Lindsey PSPO. Outside of summer, the full beach is open to dogs.
What should I know before visiting Sutton on Sea Beach with my dog?
The key thing to be aware of is the seasonal dog ban on the central beach, which runs from 1 May to 30 September — so during summer, stick to the permitted sections at either end of the beach. Parking is available on Seal Drive and in village car parks, with easy beach access via the sea wall and promenade. The village has cafes and public toilets, and the Lincolnshire Coast Path runs through here if you fancy extending your walk north towards Mablethorpe or south through Trusthorpe.
