1 / 8Mersea Island
East Mersea, Essex
Yes. Dogs are welcome at Mersea Island, up to 2 dogs per booking.
Mersea Island Holiday Park is a coastal park of caravans and Exclusive stays at East Mersea in Essex, with its own private beach where dogs are allowed and a clubhouse that welcomes the dog too.
Cross the Blackwater Estuary to East Mersea and the first thing Mersea Island Holiday Park offers a dog is a beach of its own. Its private beach overlooks the estuary, dogs are allowed on it, and a range of dog friendly caravans and Exclusive stays makes it a natural dog friendly break on the Essex coast.
Stays run from Comfort, Superior and Luxury caravans to the Exclusive range, among them The TriBeCa, the coastal themed Oyster Cottage, which sleeps nine, and The Heartwood, with hot tubs on offer in the Exclusive range. Book one of the Exclusive stays and a goody bag waits for the dog, with a fleece blanket, a rope toy, a collapsible bowl and poop bags. There is also the NordAway, new for 2026, and in summer there is tent camping on generous grass pitches, where you are welcome to bring your pooch along.
Evenings belong to The Muddy Duck Clubhouse, where Away invite you to gather your group, including the dog, for a drink and bar snacks, with a limited pizza menu and BBQs when the sun is out, no booking needed. Right next door is Cudmore Grove Country Park, where, as Away put it, dogs and minds can wander freely in the sea air. The golden rules ask that dogs stay tethered at all times, are picked up after, and are never left unattended in the accommodation.
Away mark West Mersea, a tranquil coastal village, as dog friendly, along with West Mersea Beach, where crabbing is allowed on a marked section of the causeway. Brightlingsea Beach, with colourful beach huts, welcomes dogs as well, reached by a foot ferry that picks you up from Cudmore Grove, and Colchester, England's oldest recorded town, is listed as dog friendly too.
