1 / 163 Smugglers Cove
Beadnell, Northumberland
A three bedroom cottage for six at Beadnell with a ground floor bunk room, a small enclosed garden at the front and its sister cottage next door, two dogs welcome.
The bunk room is on the ground floor and has a WC of its own, which is a small decision that changes how a week with children goes. 3 Smugglers Cove sleeps six across three bedrooms at Beadnell, dog friendly, two dogs allowed, and the little garden at the front of it is enclosed. One parking space comes with the cottage.
Downstairs holds the lounge and dining room together with a table seating six, the kitchen alongside, and that third bedroom. Above are the king and the twin and the one full bathroom in the building, the shower over the bath. It is a straightforward cottage rather than a designed one, and the layout is what it has instead: dogs and children both living on the ground floor, and the adults with a landing to themselves.
Somebody from number four has come round with a bottle and left the door open, which means both dogs are now conducting a survey of the wrong cottage. The children are upstairs at number three, in theory asleep. Six people have eaten at a table for six and the plates are still on it. Tomorrow the whole thing happens again at the other house, in the other direction.
From the end of the road the bay opens south in one long arc, and the shore going north joins the path towards Seahouses, a couple of miles of sand, rock and dune with no road anywhere in it. Two households with a dog each can set off opposite ways after breakfast and meet in the middle by accident, which happens more often than anyone expects. None of it is closed to dogs at any point in the year.
