Abernant

Llandeilo'r Fan, Powys

A detached farmhouse for six in the Brecon Beacons National Park, with enclosed gardens all round, a hot tub, an inglenook wood burner and two dogs welcome.

Book now

Marked footpaths lead out from Abernant into the countryside of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and two dogs can follow them from the very first morning. Six guests share this detached, dog friendly farmhouse, which blends rustic elegance with contemporary comfort, and has enclosed gardens surrounding it on every side.

Every room enjoys wonderful countryside views. The large lounge, with exposed beams and an inglenook fire with a wood burner, is made for a lazy evening and a film, with a generous table and benches for meals. The contemporary kitchen next door centres on an island made for socialising while the cooking happens, with natural light pouring through large windows, and a separate snug offers a cosy retreat for quieter moments. The dogs, sensibly, head for the inglenook.

Bedrooms are spread over the two upper floors: on the first, a king-size room with a dressing room and en suite bathroom and a bunk room with its own shower room, and on the second, a double bedroom with its own bathroom. Outside, a soak in the hot tub ends a day of exploring, there is a BBQ for eating outdoors, and a covered games area has table tennis and darts. Back from the hills, the two dogs flop down in the garden while the tub heats.

Llandeilo'r Fan is a lovely village between Llandovery and Brecon, with a church and a community hall, and a country walk through the bed of the valley leads 1.5 miles to a lovely pub at Pentre Bach. Pen y Fan, 12 miles off, and the Black Mountain range are wonderful for treks with the dogs, and the National Showcaves at Dan yr Ogof and the cascades of Waterfall Country at Ystradfellte are all within reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Abernant dog friendly?

Yes, Abernant welcomes up to two dogs. The farmhouse is fully enclosed by gardens that run the whole way round the building, so your dogs can roam outside freely without you needing to worry about gates or boundaries.

  • Are dogs allowed at Abernant year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend confirming directly with the owner when you book to be sure.

  • What should I know before visiting Abernant with my dog?

The key thing to know is that the enclosed gardens completely surround the farmhouse, meaning two dogs can circle the entire building without ever leaving secured ground — a genuine rarity. Beyond the property, a country walk down the valley leads to a pub at Pentre Bach just 1.5 miles away, and the Brecon Beacons are close by for bigger days out on the hills.
