Bailiffs Cottage is approached through a ford, on a beautiful private 250 acre estate of woodland, streams, valleys and fields that is free of livestock and full of wildlife. It sleeps six, two dogs come too, and this beautifully restored, dog friendly cottage has a majestic herd of red deer visiting most days.
Underfloor heating and homely touches greet you in the lounge, where everyone gathers round the wood burner with a film on the Smart TV, books and games, and the dogs settle in its warmth. The spacious kitchen and diner suits family meals, and down a couple of steps the good size utility and boot room takes coats and boots and has its own separate door, great for the dogs. There is a cosy snug too, and an outdoor shower for dogs and boots.
The king bedroom upstairs has an en suite shower and its own WC, the twin zip and link converts to a super king, the third room is a double, and there is a bathroom whose roll top bath suits a bubble bath after the moor. On the patio, seating looks out over the country, with red deer to watch for. Stone steps lead down to the rest of the garden, fenced, with a lawn bordering a stream, and guests are asked to take care with dogs around the streams and ponds on the property.
Exmoor National Park is all around for walking and mountain biking, and a path through Snowdrop Valley climbs to Dunkery Beacon's summit and its far reaching views, a grand outing for the dogs. Wheddon Cross is close, Dunster is a medieval town with a castle, and National Trust sites and medieval villages are on the doorstep.
