Beach House

Bamburgh, Northumberland

A three bedroom listed cottage for six on the coastal path in Bamburgh with an enclosed rear garden, a ground floor bedroom and beach kit provided, two dogs welcome.

Beach House stands on the coastal path in Bamburgh, which makes the path its pavement. Dog friendly, six across three bedrooms, two dogs, a Grade II listed front, and a walled patio garden shut in behind. A double and a shower room sit on the ground floor, and the castle is in view from the master window.

The lounge takes the front with a wood burner in it, the dining room behind opens by French doors into the garden, with the kitchen beyond. The washing machine and the tumble dryer live in the garage rather than the house, which is where you want them once six people and a pair of dogs are back off a beach. Above, the king has a sofa bed for a seventh, the twin a toy box.

The wind breaks and the body boards belong to the house, which nobody realised until somebody opened the garage. It is half past two and all of it is now on the beach, along with six people and two dogs. Buckets have been distributed. The tide is far out, the castle is behind everybody, and the walk home is short enough that nothing needs carrying carefully.

The sand runs 3 miles under the walls and keeps going north, and at the end of the village it reaches Stag Rock, a whinstone outcrop with a white stag painted on it, repainted by somebody or other since the nineteenth century. The squat lighthouse at Blackrocks Point stands beyond, the lowest light on this coast. No month of the year shuts dogs off that sand, and the pools at the point will hold one until it has been called twice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Beach House dog friendly?

Yes, Beach House welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has an enclosed walled patio garden to the rear, and it sits directly on the coastal path, so you and your dogs are on the sand almost before you've shut the gate.

  • Are dogs allowed at Beach House year round?

Dogs are welcome on Bamburgh's beach in every month of the year, with no seasonal restrictions. The sand runs for three miles beneath the castle walls and continues north to Stag Rock and Blackrocks Point lighthouse, giving you a generous stretch to explore whatever the season.

  • What should I know before visiting Beach House with my dog?

The house takes a maximum of two dogs, and the enclosed rear garden gives them a secure space to settle after a walk. Practically speaking, the washing machine and tumble dryer are housed in the garage rather than inside, which is genuinely useful when you're returning from the beach with wet dogs and sandy kit. The house also comes with windbreaks and bodyboards stored in the garage, so the only thing you need to bring is your dog's leads and a sense of adventure.
