There is a sofa in the games room for the people who are not playing. That is the thought this house has had put into an evening indoors, and it is where two dogs will spend most of one. Belmont House sleeps eight across four bedrooms at Heacham on the Norfolk coast, dog friendly, three bathrooms and two dogs allowed.

The ground floor carries the party. A kitchen with a double oven, two dishwashers and an island long enough to seat all eight; a hallway off it; and then a lounge and dining room opening into one another with the wood burner set between them. A bedroom and a shower room sit down here too, the bedroom a twin that will be made up as a super king on request, the room to ask for when a dog and its person would rather stay level with the garden.

Upstairs the master keeps an en-suite, there is a second king and a twin beyond it, and a snug with bean bags takes the children out of the way. The snooker room downstairs runs to a full size table and a bar in the corner. The garden is enclosed, with lawn and decking, a charcoal barbecue out on the boards, and two dogs get grass inside a boundary that runs all the way round.

Heacham stands on the Wash side of this coast, a village with a beach of its own, and the walking from it is the flat straight sort that goes on as long as anybody wants. Behind the sand the ground turns arable and the lanes run inland almost empty. Two dogs get sand at one end of the village and field at the other.

  • What should I know before visiting Belmont House - Heacham with my dog?

The house allows a maximum of two dogs, and the enclosed garden means they can roam freely outside without needing to be on a lead the whole time. Heacham beach is within the village, and quiet arable lanes run inland for longer off-the-beaten-track walks.
