Boathouse On The Beach is set right in the sand dunes at Freshwater East, alongside one of Pembrokeshire's very best beaches, and the sandy path from the door reaches the beach in 300 yards. Six people and two dogs share this detached, dog friendly property of distinction, and lovely walks lead from the beach onto the coast path of the national park.

Off the hallway there is a utility room and a WC, handy after the beach with the dogs. Beyond it, one open plan space for lounging, cooking and eating has fabulous sea views framed like a picture in floor to ceiling windows, comfortable seating, a TV, and a feature wood burner, its opening logs supplied, that keeps the room cosy whatever the season. The dogs doze in front of it while the evening meal comes together in the contemporary kitchen, with its American style fridge freezer.

Outside, the large gated patio has furniture and splendid sea views for dining outdoors, and beyond it is an enclosed lawn where the dogs can burn off any energy the beach left them. Three bedrooms lead off an internal hallway: a stylish king size master, a double and a twin, served by a large family bathroom with a corner bath and a separate shower, plus an additional WC.

The elevated village pub is a lovely place to watch the sun go down after a day by the sea. Tenby, with its cobbled streets, sandy beaches and harbour, is a short drive along the coast, as is Saundersfoot, and the castles at Manorbier, Carew and Pembroke make rewarding outings with the dogs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Boathouse On The Beach dog friendly?

Yes, Boathouse On The Beach welcomes up to two dogs. Inside, there's a generous open-plan living space with plenty of floor room, and outside the property has a gated patio and an enclosed lawn — useful for keeping dogs secure between beach visits.

  • Are dogs allowed at Boathouse On The Beach year round?

Both the property and the beach are open to dogs year round. Freshwater East has no seasonal dog restrictions at any time of year, which is notably rare on this stretch of the Pembrokeshire coast.

  • What should I know before visiting Boathouse On The Beach with my dog?

The house sits right in the dunes with direct, sand-all-the-way access to the beach, so sandy dogs are very much part of the deal — helpfully, the property has a family bathroom plus two separate WCs, making the post-beach clean-up rather more manageable for six people and two dogs. A gate separates the patio and enclosed lawn from the beach path, giving you a secure outdoor space. Freshwater East itself is a sheltered south-facing bay with a Green Coast award for water quality, so it's a good spot for a swim when the open coast is too rough.
