Border Retreat is a romantic, detached barn conversion for a couple and two dogs. It stands on a working farm in a tranquil and secluded spot near Llansilin, with uninterrupted rural views. Imaginatively restored in 2016, it keeps plenty of original features, exposed beams among them, and this dog friendly haven has great views from every window.
Downstairs, the lounge, dining area and kitchen share one cosy, traditional open-plan space. The lounge is snug and welcoming, with comfortable seating, tasteful furnishings, a Smart TV and the traditional wood burner; the dining area is charming; and the kitchen, stylishly designed, has everything down to a dishwasher and washing machine. Once the first logs catch, two walked-out dogs drift towards the warmth and stay there.
Upstairs, a super-king bedroom that is both cosy and spacious has a wet room to go with it. Outside, the enclosed garden has a patio, a lawn, furniture and a BBQ, and at the end of a fantastic day you can sit out with the dogs and admire the glorious rural views. Walkers, cyclists and their dogs have a superb choice of footpaths and trails here, from the Ceiriog and Tanat valleys to the Shropshire Hills and Offa's Dyke, and The Pistyll at Llanrhaeadr is a dramatic 240 foot waterfall. Llansilin and Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant have pubs, cafes and restaurants, Oswestry is an ancient market town of shops and galleries, and Erddig, Chirk and Powis castles are nearby.
