Book now

Clyro Brook runs along the large wildlife garden at Brook Cottage, where meandering paths wind through meadow grass and two dogs can follow their noses from one peaceful corner to the next. This charming character cottage sits in the heart of Clyro, a peaceful village on the Welsh border, offering five guests a dog friendly base, with Hay-on-Wye 1 mile away.

You arrive into the garden room, with its dining table, and from there into the spacious kitchen and diner, which seats five. At the front of the cottage, the cosy lounge has a plush settee and armchair, a TV and the wood burner, the obvious place for the dogs after a long day out, and off it a snug with an armchair, reading lamp, a well stocked bookcase and a desk makes a lovely retreat.

From the bright landing there are three spacious bedrooms, a large double with views of the garden, a twin that converts to a double on request and a single, and the bathroom offers a bath as well as its own shower. Out in the garden, a patio set with table and chairs overlooks a charming waterfall near the original ty bach, and in the evenings the fire pit is lit, the woodland benches come into their own and the dogs curl up beside you under the dark skies.

Hay-on-Wye is renowned for its bookshops and cafes, and the Wye Valley and Offa's Dyke trails both pass through it. There are scenic walks with the dogs along the River Wye, wild swimming at The Warren, trails up to Hay Bluff and Twmpa in the Brecon Beacons, and the National Trust's Begwns, with views to the Beacons and the Radnorshire hills.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Brook Cottage - Clyro dog friendly?

Yes, Brook Cottage welcomes dogs — up to two at a time. The garden is a real draw for them, with meadow paths running along Clyro Brook where a dog can spend a good while exploring the grass and waterside.

  • Are dogs allowed at Brook Cottage - Clyro year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it's best to check directly with the owner when booking to confirm availability for your dates. The fire pit and wood burner make it sound well suited to a cooler-season stay, which is a good sign for year-round visits.

  • What should I know before visiting Brook Cottage - Clyro with my dog?

The garden and meadow paths are better suited to sniffing and exploring than ball games, so it's worth bearing in mind if your dog needs a lot of open space to run. Field tracks connect the villages nearby and most are suitable for dogs on a long line, and the Welsh-English border is close enough for a morning walk that crosses into a different country and back.
