Book now

Byre Cottage is a five star, Grade II listed stone cottage on a quiet leafy lane, surrounded by fields and woodland, and footpaths within a hundred yards lead to the coast at Shanklin. The dog friendly cottage sleeps six, along with two dogs of up to medium build, or a single large dog.

It has been furnished and equipped to a high standard, with oak floors and the exposed beams in the walls and ceilings retained. The light and spacious sitting room has comfortable seating, a woodburner and French doors onto a patio at the rear, and the open plan kitchen, with oak units and a quarry tiled floor, leads to a rustic dining area. After a day across the fields, the dogs stretch out by the woodburner.

Downstairs, a double comes with an en suite and a walk-in shower; upstairs, a king-size and a twin room share the family bathroom. Dogs are kept out of the bedrooms, and dogs under 12 months are not accepted. Outside, the sunny, private enclosed garden at the rear has garden furniture, an umbrella and a barbecue, and a gate leads through the arch to the front, where there is more garden. Lunch on the patio comes with the dogs dozing nearby.

The dogs will love the scenic trail across fields and downs to Ventnor, with panoramic views across Sandown Bay, and Shanklin, 1.5 miles away, has an extensive sandy beach, tea rooms, quaint shops and traditional seaside fun. The pretty village of Godshill, five minutes' drive away, has friendly pubs serving high quality food, teashops and charming shops.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Byre Cottage - Shanklin dog friendly?

Yes, Byre Cottage is dog friendly and welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has an enclosed rear garden where both dogs can settle comfortably, and footpaths leave the lane within a hundred yards of the door — so walks start the moment you step outside.

  • Are dogs allowed at Byre Cottage - Shanklin year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, suggesting they're welcome throughout the year. That's good news if you're planning a quieter off-season break — the nearby woodland, the grounds at Appuldurcombe, and the Luccombe undercliff paths are all there whatever the time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Byre Cottage - Shanklin with my dog?

The cottage welcomes a maximum of two dogs, and the enclosed rear garden means they have secure outdoor space without you needing to keep a constant eye on the gate. Shanklin's beach is 1.4 miles away, so it's worth checking local seasonal restrictions before you head down — and if your dogs find busy seaside towns a bit much, the cottage sits far enough from the resort that the garden stays peaceful.
