Chevy Chase Cottage

Wooler, Northumberland

A three bedroom cottage for six at Wooler under the Cheviots with a private enclosed garden, bi-fold doors and bikes in the shed, two dogs welcome.

Both dogs are lying against the bi-fold doors at the end of the lounge, open, because that is where the garden begins. Chevy Chase Cottage is dog friendly at Wooler, sleeping six over three bedrooms and taking two dogs, with a private enclosed garden and patio behind. One rule comes with the place: the bedrooms are not theirs.

You arrive into a lobby with room for coats and boots, then the kitchen and diner, then down a step into the lounge. A double bedroom and the family bathroom open off that lobby. Four more steps lead up an internal hall to the master, a shower room attached to it and a twin across the way. The utility is reached from the patio outside, which keeps the washing machine, the wet things and the dog towels out of the house.

The shed in the garden has bikes in it that come with the cottage, which is worth knowing before anybody straps one to a car. Six people, two bathrooms and two dogs means a family or two couples with children. Wooler itself is three minutes on foot. The bedroom rule is the only thing to plan around, and dogs downstairs is how most households run anyway.

Wooler calls itself the gateway to the Cheviots and has the geography to back the claim. Humbleton Hill stands over the town, an Iron Age fort where Hotspur broke a Scots army in 1402, twenty minutes up for a view over Glendale. Behind it the Harthope valley runs into the hills towards the Cheviot. Dogs are loose on Humbleton and the open ground behind, and in the town Ad Gefrin is a new museum and distillery beside the Anglo-Saxon royal site it is named for.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Chevy Chase Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Chevy Chase Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has a private enclosed garden and patio, so your dogs have a safe outdoor space to enjoy, and the lounge opens directly onto the garden through bi-fold doors.

  • Are dogs allowed at Chevy Chase Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we do know is that the setup — enclosed garden, lobby for coats and muddy boots, dog towels kept in the utility — is well suited to year-round visits.

  • What should I know before visiting Chevy Chase Cottage with my dog?

The one rule to plan around is that dogs aren't allowed in the bedrooms — downstairs is their domain, which for most households is standard practice anyway. The utility room, accessed from the patio outside, keeps the washing machine, wet kit and dog towels separate from the main living space, which makes life easier after a muddy day in the Cheviots.
