Chy Kerrik

Cadgwith, Cornwall

A one bedroom cottage half a mile from Cadgwith Cove with a garden the owners call fully enclosed and ideal for dogs, and the Lizard coast path two miles off.

Cadgwith is a thatched fishing cove on the east side of the Lizard where boats still work off the shingle, and it is half a mile from this door. Chy Kerrik is a one bedroom cottage on a working farm above it, with a wood burner, a ground floor bathroom and one dog welcome.

The owners describe the garden as fully enclosed and ideal for dogs, which is their wording rather than ours and the sort of thing worth quoting straight. From it, the Lizard delivers. Cadgwith Cove, half a mile off, rates an eight with us, and Kennack Sands at a mile and six tenths rates the same. The Kynance Cove coast walk is two miles out, and the Lizard Peninsula coast walk at two and a tenth rates a nine, which puts it among the best coastal walking anywhere in Cornwall.

This corner has one of the mildest climates in England, which makes it a serious winter booking rather than a summer only one. That matters more for the dog than for you. The Lizard in January is empty, the coves are open, and the seasonal restrictions that shut so much of Cornwall's sand between Easter and October are simply not in force. It is a working farm, so leads on around stock, and the allowance is a single dog.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Chy Kerrik dog friendly?

Yes, one dog is welcome at Chy Kerrik. The cottage sits on a working farm above Cadgwith Cove, and the owners describe the garden as fully enclosed and ideal for dogs — which is their wording, and worth taking seriously.

  • Are dogs allowed at Chy Kerrik year round?

Yes, and the Lizard is genuinely worth considering in winter. The climate here is one of the mildest in England, the coves are open, and the seasonal beach restrictions that affect much of Cornwall between Easter and October simply aren't in force — which makes a real difference if you're travelling with a dog.

  • What should I know before visiting Chy Kerrik with my dog?

The allowance is a single dog, and because Chy Kerrik is a working farm, leads are required around livestock. Beyond that, the location is well set up for dogs — Cadgwith Cove is half a mile away, Kennack Sands is under two miles, and the Lizard Peninsula coast path, which we rate a nine, is just over two miles out.
