Chy Tarow

Cadgwith, Cornwall

A one bedroom cottage above Cadgwith where the living room doors open straight onto an enclosed garden, one dog welcome, and the Lizard coast path two miles off.

Chy Tarow is the sister to Chy Kerrik on the same working farm above Cadgwith, and the difference worth knowing is the doors. The living space opens directly onto the enclosed garden, which is furnished with a table and chairs. One bedroom, one dog, a wood burner and a bathroom on the ground floor.

That arrangement earns its keep on a long evening, because the door stands open and your dog comes and goes without anyone giving it a thought. Past the gate, the Lizard is the draw. Cadgwith Cove is half a mile and takes an eight from us, Kennack Sands a mile and six tenths and the same, the Kynance Cove coast walk two miles out, and the Lizard Peninsula coast walk at two and a tenth rates a nine. Serpentine rock, thrift on the cliff edge and the most southerly air in England.

The Lizard has the mildest climate in the country, which makes a winter week here genuinely viable rather than a second choice, and the allowance is a single dog. It is a working farm, so leads on around stock. What this cottage has over its sister is the ground floor bathroom and the single level living, which on a peninsula this steep is no small advantage for an old dog.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Chy Tarow dog friendly?

Yes, Chy Tarow welcomes one dog. The living space opens directly onto an enclosed garden, so your dog can come and go freely without any fuss, and the ground floor layout makes life easier for older or less mobile dogs.

  • Are dogs allowed at Chy Tarow year round?

Yes, and the Lizard's reputation for the mildest climate in the country means a winter stay here is a genuinely good option rather than a compromise. The coast walks and Cadgwith Cove are on the doorstep whatever the season.

  • What should I know before visiting Chy Tarow with my dog?

The allowance is one dog only. Chy Tarow sits on a working farm, so leads are required around any livestock. Beyond the garden gate, Cadgwith Cove is half a mile away and the wider Lizard coast walks are within two miles, so there's plenty of good walking on offer once you're out.
