Claydon, Oxfordshire
Two adjacent cottages let together for ten in the grounds of 12th century Clattercote Priory near Banbury, with a large enclosed walled garden, footpaths from the door and four dogs welcome.
Clattercote Cottages are two adjacent holiday cottages let together, set on a working farm in the grounds of the 12th century Clattercote Priory and surrounded by horse paddocks with lovely views. Ten guests and four dogs fit across the pair, and the two share a large, enclosed walled garden, a dog friendly choice for a family gathering.
Each cottage has its own open plan layout, with a lounge of comfortable seating and a TV, and a well equipped kitchen. The first keeps its original fireplace, a huge chimney breast and the old bread oven, full of character. There is no internal connection between the two, but French doors open from the houses onto terrace and garden, where both halves of the party, and all four dogs, naturally come together.
On the ground floor the first cottage has two double bedrooms and the second has one, each cottage with its own bathroom, and each has a further double on a mezzanine overlooking the living area below. A fold up bed can be booked for an eleventh guest. Garden furniture and barbecues are provided for evening cookouts. There are friendly resident dogs on the farm, and guests are welcome to wander through the grounds, minding the pond near the main house.
A wealth of footpaths leads out from the doorstep for four dogs to explore, and fishing is available too. Banbury, with Spiceball Country Park, is close by, and the historic triangle of Oxford, Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon sits within a 30 minute drive. Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle, Sulgrave Manor and the Heritage Motor Museum make fine days out.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Clattercote Cottages dog friendly?
Yes — up to four dogs are welcome at Clattercote Cottages. The property has an enclosed walled garden, so dogs can be let out safely the moment you arrive, which makes an allowance of that size genuinely practical rather than just a gesture.
Are dogs allowed at Clattercote Cottages year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nothing in the property description suggests otherwise. If timing matters to you, it's always worth checking directly with the owners before you book.
What should I know before visiting Clattercote Cottages with my dog?
The enclosed walled garden is the real selling point for dog owners — it's brick-walled rather than wire-fenced, which gives it a solidity that makes four dogs feel manageable. Beyond the garden, the Oxford Canal towpath runs up the lane and offers miles of flat, quiet walking, while Burton Dassett's open hilltops are about six miles west for something more expansive. One thing worth knowing about the property itself: the owners are upfront that the stairs are steep and the place won't suit everyone, so it's one to bear in mind if any of your group — human or canine — struggles with that.
