Cockle Cottage sits in a quiet area of Seahouses, a lovely village on the Northumberland coast, and it is a beautifully finished dog friendly cottage that sleeps four, with up to two dogs welcome. Golden sandy beaches and coastal paths are within easy reach of the door, and boat trips run out to the Farne Islands.
A welcoming hallway leads in, with a cloakroom off it, and then the open plan lounge and dining area, where the seating is arranged around a wood burner effect electric fire. That is where the dogs end up once the coast path is done, while the table takes four for supper. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. Upstairs are two tastefully furnished bedrooms with subtle nautical touches, a king size with an en suite walk in shower and a twin, along with a family bathroom.
Outside, the private enclosed rear garden is patio style and set on two levels, with outdoor furniture and pots of plants in the warmer months. After a day on the sand it is a pleasant place to sit with a drink while the dogs investigate the pots. At Christmas the cottage is decorated for the season, which makes a festive week here with two dogs a cheerful one.
Seahouses has friendly pubs and a supermarket within a mile, and a village golf course with panoramic views. The Farne Islands are a nature reserve, home to puffins, grey seals and numerous seabirds. Days that start on the beach with the dogs can carry on to Bamburgh, with its impressive castle and excellent places to eat, or to Alnwick Castle, half an hour's drive away, where scenes from Harry Potter and Downton Abbey were filmed.
