The master bedroom is upstairs and its bathroom is not. It has a bathroom of its own downstairs reached by a staircase serving nothing else, a plan a barn ends up with and a house never would. Colts Barn carries six across three bedrooms at Sloley in Norfolk, five star, dog friendly, two dogs, with an enclosed garden off the lounge door.

You enter straight into kitchen, dining and lounge as one long room, where six people and two dogs spend the week. A double oven, a large fridge freezer, a dishwasher and a washing machine mean nothing here has to be rationed, and after a day on Norfolk clay the last of those earns its keep. The table takes six and two sofas and an armchair take the other end.

The bedrooms sit at opposite ends of the building, the king on the ground floor at one end and the super king with the downstairs bathroom at the other, a twin and a shower room above it. Two dogs learn that layout on the first evening and use it to be in whichever half the food is. The garden through the back door is enclosed and roomy, furniture out on it and a hot tub set in one corner.

The estate this barn belongs to keeps woodlands and meadows with permissive footpaths cut through them, starting within walking distance of the door. Permissive means the landowner allows it rather than the law requiring it, and none of that ground is fenced, so it is a lead at the gate and off again once the trees close in. Two dogs get woodland from the door and a lane out of the village when anybody wants one.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Colts Barn dog friendly?

Yes, Colts Barn welcomes dogs — up to two at a time. The barn has an enclosed garden accessible from the lounge door, and the estate's woodlands and meadows with permissive footpaths are within walking distance of the property.

  • Are dogs allowed at Colts Barn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend checking directly with the owner to confirm availability and any conditions around your stay.

  • What should I know before visiting Colts Barn with my dog?

You can bring up to two dogs, and the enclosed garden gives them a safe space to roam freely from the moment you arrive. The estate's permissive footpaths through woodland and meadows are close by, though dogs should be kept on a lead at the gate before heading onto unfenced ground. There's also a washing machine in the barn, which comes in handy after a muddy day out on Norfolk's clay paths.
