Book now

Conwy Valley Manor House is a 16th century house of stone and timber, beautifully refurbished in 2017, standing high at Tal y Cafn with views towards the Conwy River. It sleeps eight on a large country estate, and this dog friendly manor takes one dog, with stairgates provided so the dog keeps to the ground floor.

You enter by a contemporary kitchen with an electric range cooker, set against the period charm of the house, and an antique dining table laid from an 18th century Welsh dresser. Boots and jackets dry in the utility room. Through unique doors and past old beams, the lounge has a wood burner, superb views from its window and a Smart TV, and by the first evening the dog has picked its spot on the warm side of the burner. A snug with a second TV is there for games or a good book.

Two staircases, one at either end, give glimpses of the family history on the way up to the four bedrooms, all different in feel, among them a contemporary four poster king. Outside is the enclosed walled garden, half an acre of fruit trees, plants and lawn with an exclusive hot tub. The paved terrace has a marble topped table under a honeysuckle covered pergola and a hammock, and lunch out there comes with the dog asleep on the lawn.

Conwy is close by, a World Heritage Site of castle, town walls, galleries and a fishing harbour. Bodnant Garden is near too. Footpaths, cycle routes and bridleways range from gentle strolls to challenging climbs, so a dog can have both in a week. The owner can also offer stabling for horses by arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Conwy Valley Manor House dog friendly?

Yes, Conwy Valley Manor House welcomes one dog. It's a five star rated property, and the setup works well for dogs — there's a utility room at the entrance to take muddy boots and your dog before they reach the older floors, and half an acre of walled garden to roam freely.

  • Are dogs allowed at Conwy Valley Manor House year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the walled garden and the walks on the doorstep, it makes for a good base in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting Conwy Valley Manor House with my dog?

The property accepts one dog, so it's not suited to multi-dog households. The walled garden is a great asset — described as the kind of boundary a dog tests once and then stops thinking about — but the walking country nearby, including the climb to Tal y Fan via an old drovers' track from Rowen, is largely sheep country, so expect your dog to be on a lead for most of it.
