Rothbury, Northumberland
A four bedroom cottage for eight in the middle of Rothbury with a private enclosed patio, a pool table and an inglenook built from Cragside stone, two dogs welcome.
Cragside View stands in the middle of Rothbury, dog friendly, eight people across four bedrooms with two dogs, and its inglenook was built with stone taken from Cragside House itself when work was done up there. Behind the cottage a private enclosed patio sits under wisteria, with a lockable gate onto the lane. Cragside's own gates are a walk up the road.
The lounge holds that fireplace and a pool table in the same room, which tells you what the evenings are for. A dining room lies beyond it, then the kitchen with its range oven and a small sitting area of its own, chairs and a table by the window. A utility and a WC are downstairs, which is where two dogs and the boots of eight people get dealt with before anything reaches the stairs.
Nine at night, and the pool table has been in continuous use since seven. Somebody is losing badly and blaming the cue. The inglenook has its wood burner alight alongside, and both dogs have taken the hearth, being the warmest square yard in the building and theirs by right of arriving first. Somebody upstairs is running the roll top bath and has told nobody.
Cragside is at the top of the village, the house Lord Armstrong drove into a hillside in the 1860s and the first anywhere lit by hydroelectricity, with a thousand acres of rock garden, pinetum and lakes laid out round it. The estate drive alone runs 6 miles. Dogs are welcome across the grounds and the woodland walks on a lead, and the Coquet comes through the town below the house.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Cragside View dog friendly?
Yes, Cragside View welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has a private enclosed patio with a lockable gate onto the lane, making it a practical and secure base for dog owners, and there's a utility room and downstairs WC to sort muddy paws and boots before anyone heads upstairs.
Are dogs allowed at Cragside View year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — enclosed patio, utility room, wood burner — suits a dog-friendly stay in any season.
What should I know before visiting Cragside View with my dog?
The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, so it's not the place for a bigger pack. Just up the road, the Cragside estate is open to dogs on leads across its woodland walks and grounds, with six miles of estate drive and a thousand acres to explore — a serious bonus for anyone staying in the village.
