Earth Ship

Kinross, Perthshire

A five star single storey home for seven on a working farm by Loch Leven, with a hot tub in the enclosed garden and two dogs welcome.

The path network around Loch Leven can be joined directly from Earth Ship, which for a dog that likes a flat, endless, waterside trail is the winning ticket. A five star single storey home for seven on a working farm above the loch, it takes two dogs and hides a hot tub in the enclosed garden, dog friendly comfort with a National Nature Reserve at the fence.

The open plan living space takes the hills and the loch through its windows, with a wood burner for the evenings and a big dining table for the gatherings. A super king master with en suite wet room, a second super king that splits to twins and a triple room sleep the seven, with three washing places between them, wet rooms included, which is dog bath infrastructure if ever it existed.

Loch Leven built its reputation on escape: Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned on the island castle in 1567 and got out by boat, which remains the best way to visit. The Heritage Trail circles the whole loch for walkers and wheels, the RSPB centre explains the tens of thousands of geese, and the hot tub restores everybody afterwards, dogs excepted by design.

Kinross and its services sit close, Falkland and the Lomond Hills rise east, Dollar Glen cuts into the Ochils west, and both Gleneagles and St Andrews are inside an hour for the golfers. The dogs will choose the loch, every day, and the loch deserves it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Earth Ship dog friendly?

Yes, Earth Ship welcomes up to two dogs. It's a single storey property, which makes it easy going for dogs of all sizes and ages, and the garden is enclosed — handy if yours can't be trusted near the loch unsupervised.

  • Are dogs allowed at Earth Ship year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth confirming directly with the owner when you book. Loch Leven is a rewarding walk in any season, and the wood burner and hot tub make it a genuinely appealing base in the colder months too.

  • What should I know before visiting Earth Ship with my dog?

Earth Ship sits on a working farm, so you'll want to be mindful of that when it comes to keeping dogs under control around the property. The good news is the Loch Leven Heritage Trail starts right from the door — a flat, waterside loop that's ideal for dogs — and with multiple wet rooms in the house, there's plenty of infrastructure for rinsing off after a muddy day out. Note that the hot tub is off limits for dogs, though we suspect they'll forgive you.
