From the top gate of the farm, guests can walk up to the summit of Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor's highest point, where the views are far reaching. Stags View sits around the farmyard on the foot slopes of the Beacon, a quiet and peaceful dog friendly cottage that sleeps four guests, takes two dogs and has walks that start from the door.
The stable door opens straight into the lounge, made for films and time together, and the door can be opened to let the outside in; when the wood burner is going, the dogs stretch out beside it. Family meals happen in the separate kitchen and diner. Upstairs are two twin bedrooms, either of them zipping together as a super king, one with a balcony, and the shower room.
Out through the stable door is an enclosed deck with seating and far reaching views, and three steps lead down to the enclosed garden for a glass of wine as the evening settles. With dogs in mind, there is a dog kennel and run below the decking steps for guests to use, and a shared utility with a washing machine in a separate building.
Wheddon Cross is a short distance away and is renowned for its snowdrops each February. The medieval town of Dunster has shops, cafes and a castle, and the superb walking at Withypool, Lanacre and Tarr Steps gives the dogs a grand day out, as does the South West Coast Path. Lynton and Lynmouth with their water powered cliff railway are further afield, as are the Valley of the Rocks and West Somerset's steam railway.
