Swanage is a traditional coastal town with a popular sandy beach and a great selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Family Tides sits on its outskirts, a dog friendly house for five carefully renovated with family and friends in mind, and two dogs come on the booking. Its main bedroom has sea views, and the other two look out to the hills.

There is a side door from the kitchen into the garden for storing bikes, kayaks and paddleboards, and it does just as well for two dogs and everything they carry home. The conservatory has been turned into a dining room, and its French doors open onto decking, with the secure rear garden, mainly laid to lawn, a few steps below.

It is late afternoon on the decking, the rolling hills of Dorset going gold beyond the garden. Somebody is putting a paddleboard away by the side door, two dogs are out on the lawn doing nothing in particular, and a debate has started about walking in for chips instead of cooking.
