An enclosed garden is a rare thing in Appledore, and Fernlea has a beautiful one. Behind this lovely family home lie four separate patio areas among mature planting, the top one with an estuary view and a charcoal BBQ. Three dogs are welcome alongside six guests, in a quaint fishing village with a bustling quayside, making this a dog friendly home full of appeal.
Better still, an external side gate leads into the garden, which saves the dogs trailing sandy paws through the house after the beach. Inside, the hall has a cupboard for coats and boots, the lounge has incredible views over Appledore, and the snug next door has French doors onto the garden. Upstairs, a super king and a double both look over the estuary, and the twin, which has an en suite, faces the garden.
From the garden, gated external steps lead up to the games room in the garage, with table football and a magnetic dartboard, and a utility area with a tumble dryer for the dog towels. The kitchen and diner opens onto a patio with an outdoor dining set, and the evening tends to drift up to the top patio, the BBQ cooling, the estuary in view and three dogs stretched out at your feet.
A short stroll from the house is a large open green with a play area and picnic tables, and a fine place for a dog walk. Appledore has restaurants, pubs and shops of its own, the foot ferry crosses to Instow and its sandy beach in summer, and Westward Ho!, with its larger beach and pebble ridge, is a short drive or a walk along the coast path. Bideford is nearby too.
