The rule here is written down rather than left to be guessed at: dogs stay downstairs. Freshwater Bay 16 sleeps six behind a lavender weatherboard front at Freshwater East, dog friendly, three bedrooms and three bathrooms, with an enclosed garden and seating in it. A stated rule beats an unstated one every time, and this one is easy to keep because the whole ground floor is where you want to be anyway.

That ground floor is an open lounge and diner with the kitchen on the same level, a balcony off it that catches a look at the sea, and a cloakroom with a large shower in it. The shower is the reason the rule works: two dogs come off the sand, go through that door, and never get near a staircase. A utility cupboard takes the washing and there is a store for bikes outside.

Three bathrooms for six people is generous by any measure and it changes the shape of a morning. One is on the ground floor, one is en suite, and the third has a separate shower, so nobody is queuing and nobody is waiting on the dogs being dealt with first. The three bedrooms are all upstairs, which is the other half of why the rule works.

The lily ponds at Bosherston are a few miles west, three flooded valleys dug as an ornamental lake by the Stackpole estate and now grown into something wilder, with causeways across them and otters in the water. It is flat walking through woodland and reed, entirely different from the cliff a mile away, and it is the walk to keep for a day when a dog has had enough of sand.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Freshwater Bay 16 dog friendly?

Yes, Freshwater Bay 16 welcomes dogs. The property accommodates up to two dogs, and there's a genuinely practical setup for them: an enclosed garden, a ground floor cloakroom with a large shower for post-beach rinses, and easy access without ever needing to go upstairs.

  • Are dogs allowed at Freshwater Bay 16 year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. As a dedicated dog-friendly stay, it's set up to welcome dogs as a matter of course rather than an exception.

  • What should I know before visiting Freshwater Bay 16 with my dog?

The one rule to be aware of is that dogs stay downstairs — but it's a rule that works in everyone's favour. The ground floor has an open lounge, kitchen, diner, balcony, and a cloakroom with a large shower that's clearly designed with sandy dogs in mind, so there's no need to trail through the whole house after a beach walk. The enclosed garden gives dogs somewhere to stretch out, and the Bosherston lily ponds a few miles west offer a flat, woodland and reed walk for days when a dog has had enough of the coast.
