Fuchsias

Westward Ho, Devon

A three bedroom Westward Ho house with a large enclosed rear garden, two dogs welcome, and Northam Burrows behind the beach a mile away.

Five star graded, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and six people, with a large enclosed rear garden holding a table and chairs. Fuchsias sits a mile and a bit back from Westward Ho beach and takes two dogs.

Northam Burrows makes this address more than the beach itself does. It lies behind the pebble ridge, a wide flat sweep of common land and dune where the going is easy for a dog and nothing closes it seasonally. The beach is one and two tenths out, the Tarka Trail four and four tenths, and Saunton Sands four and nine tenths, which we give a nine.

Two dogs, and a garden the owners describe as great sized rather than adequate. At just under a thousand pounds this sits at the upper end for a six sleeper, and what the money buys is the five star grading and the room outside, which for two dogs coming off Northam Burrows in February is precisely the part that counts.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Fuchsias dog friendly?

Yes, Fuchsias welcomes up to two dogs. The property has a large enclosed rear garden, which the owners describe as great sized rather than just adequate — a meaningful distinction if you're arriving with muddy dogs after a morning on Northam Burrows.

  • Are dogs allowed at Fuchsias year round?

Yes, and the surrounding area makes year-round visits particularly worthwhile. Northam Burrows — the wide flat sweep of common land and dunes behind the pebble ridge, around a mile from the property — has no seasonal closures, so your dogs can roam freely whatever time of year you visit.

  • What should I know before visiting Fuchsias with my dog?

The two-dog limit is worth bearing in mind if you're travelling with a larger pack. Beyond that, the setup is well suited to dogs: the enclosed rear garden gives you a secure space to decompress after walks, and Northam Burrows is easy going underfoot — flat, open common land where dogs can move freely. The beach itself is 1.2 miles out, the Tarka Trail 4.4 miles, and Saunton Sands (rated 9 out of 10 by us) is just under 5 miles away.
