Graham Cottage

Freshwater, Isle of Wight

A two bedroom cottage for four in the heart of Freshwater, with an enclosed rear garden, an open fire, a swift colony in the eaves and three dogs welcome.

Book now

Every summer the swifts nest at Graham Cottage. The house and its neighbour are home to one of the island's oldest swift colonies, and bird boxes and renovated eaves are there to encourage them. This beautiful, dog friendly cottage stands at the heart of Freshwater village and sleeps four. Three dogs are welcome to join the party.

You come in through the front gate and down a pretty garden path, and the front door opens into the dining room. Through from there is the comfortable lounge, with sofas, a Smart TV and an open fire, logs included, while in the open plan kitchen diner all four can sit down together. Before the cases are open, three dogs have located the fireside.

Upstairs are a double with plenty of storage, a bunk room and a WC reached from both. Behind the cottage lies an enclosed garden with grass for the dogs to roam, a furnished patio and a BBQ, and in June and July you can sit out there with them as the swifts wheel overhead.

Freshwater has shops, tearooms, pubs and restaurants, and the village is known for its bay and beautiful scenery. From here the dogs can take Tennyson Down across to The Needles and Headon Warren, with the island's coastline alongside, and the sandy bays at Totland and Colwell are within 1.5 miles. Compton Bay, with its dinosaur footprints and fossils, is 4 miles away.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Graham Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Graham Cottage is dog friendly and welcomes up to three dogs, which is a generous allowance for a cottage of this size. The enclosed rear garden — half grass, half patio — gives dogs a safe outside space, and the layout of the cottage puts them right in the middle of things from the moment you arrive.

  • Are dogs allowed at Graham Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs at Graham Cottage. For confirmation of availability at specific times of year, it's worth checking directly with the owner when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Graham Cottage with my dog?

The cottage welcomes up to three dogs, so it's well set up for multi-dog households. The rear garden is enclosed, which is handy for letting dogs out safely, though the owner's bird boxes dotted around the garden may give your dogs something to fixate on. Just outside the village, a flat, traffic-free path follows the old railway line along the River Yar estuary — an easy and pleasant walk with dogs of any energy level.
