Two king size bedrooms and not a twin between them. Greenbank Farm Cottage has made its mind up about what it is for. This is a dog friendly farm cottage built for two couples, or for a couple with the sort of guests who expect a proper bed, plus two dogs alongside them. It stands near Carluke in the Clyde valley, and the enclosed garden behind it is where the dogs will establish themselves inside ten minutes.

Everything that matters sits on the ground floor, bedroom and shower room included, which keeps the place straightforward for an older dog and for anybody else who would rather not negotiate a staircase at the end of a long day. The kitchen is plainly equipped and the lounge has a Smart TV in it. The garden is enclosed, so the door opens and the dogs are simply released rather than escorted.

Around the cottage the Clyde valley runs to orchards, glasshouses and steep wooded banks dropping to the river, and the farm itself is still working ground. Fishing is available nearby to anyone who arranges a permit first. The whole place is quieter than people expect who assume the central belt is one long motorway, and two dogs will register the difference within about four minutes of the car door opening.

New Lanark is the local wonder: a restored cotton mill village on the Clyde and a World Heritage Site, with the Falls of Clyde immediately upstream. That gorge walk climbs past three waterfalls with peregrines overhead and dogs welcome the length of it. Lanark is the market town for everything else, and Beecraigs country park lies 17.4 miles north for a bigger day among woodland and lochs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Greenbank Farm Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Greenbank Farm Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has an enclosed garden, so once you arrive you can simply open the door and let them out without needing to supervise every moment — most dogs, apparently, have the measure of it within ten minutes.

  • Are dogs allowed at Greenbank Farm Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nothing about the cottage suggests otherwise. If you want to confirm availability for a particular time of year, it's worth checking directly with the owners when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Greenbank Farm Cottage with my dog?

The enclosed garden is one of the key practical details — dogs can roam it freely without needing to be on a lead, which makes settling in straightforward. The cottage sits on working farm ground, so it's worth being mindful of that when you're out and about beyond the garden. Nearby, the Falls of Clyde gorge walk is dog-friendly its entire length and gives you waterfalls, woodland and the chance of spotting peregrines overhead.
