Harrowden Cottage

Heacham, Norfolk

A three bedroom carrstone cottage for six at Heacham in Norfolk, with an enclosed garden you cross to reach the door, two bathrooms and two dogs welcome.

Book now

You reach the front of this house by going round the back of it, through a gate beside the garage and across the garden to the back door. Worth knowing in advance, and it is also the whole merit of the arrangement: the gate that closes the enclosure is the same gate you walk through carrying the shopping, so nobody has to remember to check it. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a WC of its own make Harrowden Cottage a dog friendly six at Heacham in Norfolk, two dogs allowed.

That garden is enclosed and there is seating standing about in it. What it means day to day is that two dogs are let out of the car and into fenced ground before anybody has found the key, which is the opposite of the usual order of things.

The house is carrstone, the brown local stone, and the door opens into a kitchen and dining area with an island and two stools at it and a table seating six. The lounge holds a three seater and two armchairs round an open gas fire, which is the corner two dogs will claim by the second evening. Upstairs one double keeps an en-suite shower room, while the other double shares the bathroom with the bunk room, and there is a WC downstairs in the hall.

South Beach runs a mile off, the one without the promenade on it, wide at low tide and long enough to lose a running dog for a moment without losing sight of it. Snettisham Park is three miles inland, a wildlife and farm park, and not the beach of the same name. Two dogs get sand and grazing land within the same short drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Harrowden Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Harrowden Cottage welcomes dogs — up to two are allowed. It's a well-suited set-up for them, with an enclosed garden they can stretch their legs in as soon as you arrive, and South Beach just a mile away for longer runs.

  • Are dogs allowed at Harrowden Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend confirming directly with the owner if you're planning a visit at a particular time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Harrowden Cottage with my dog?

The entrance to the cottage is through a gate at the back, across the enclosed garden to the back door — and handily, that same gate is the only way in, so there's no risk of accidentally leaving it open. The garden is fully fenced, which means your dogs can be let out of the car and into secure outdoor space before you've even found the key. For walks, South Beach is a mile away and wide enough at low tide for a good run, and Snettisham Park is three miles inland if you fancy a change of scenery.
