There are two ways out to the garden here, one through French windows in the kitchen and one from the lounge, and since the dogs are kept to the ground floor that means the whole of their territory has a door in it. Hayloft splits four across two bedrooms at Dersingham in Norfolk, dog friendly, two dogs on it, and lawn and patio inside a fence at the back.

The front door gives on a wide hallway with a room to each side of it. The lounge takes two deep sofas, a television and a fire, and the kitchen and diner opposite is the light one, a dining table in it and enough equipment to run a full week without visiting a shop. A cloakroom sits off the hall before the stairs, and all of that belongs to the two dogs.

Both bedrooms are above and both have a bathroom of their own, the king with a bath and a handheld shower over it and the twin with a shower room. The owners ask that no dog goes up there, which leaves the hall, both ground floor rooms, the cloakroom and two garden doors, and that is a generous allowance of house for an animal that has been told where the line is.

Dersingham keeps two pubs, village shops and a pottery gallery inside walking distance of the door. Dersingham Bog lies three miles out, a nature reserve of heath, bog and pine holding birds that turn up in very few other places in England, with paths worked through it. Two dogs get village pavement one way and something genuinely wild the other.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Hayloft Dersingham dog friendly?

Yes, Hayloft Dersingham welcomes up to two dogs. The ground floor — including the hall, lounge, kitchen and diner, cloakroom, and an enclosed garden accessible through two separate doors — is all theirs to use freely.

  • Are dogs allowed at Hayloft Dersingham year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it's best to check directly with the owners when booking if you're planning a visit at a particular time of year. What is clear is that the cottage is set up with dogs as a genuine consideration rather than an afterthought.

  • What should I know before visiting Hayloft Dersingham with my dog?

The main rule to be aware of is that dogs are kept to the ground floor — the two bedrooms upstairs are off limits. That still leaves a generous run of space including two rooms, a cloakroom, a hallway and an enclosed garden with patio and lawn, plus easy access to Dersingham village and Dersingham Bog nature reserve about three miles out, which has paths through heath, bog and pine.
