Beadnell, Northumberland
A three bedroom converted farm building for six outside Beadnell with stone walled gardens front and back and two ground floor bedrooms, two dogs welcome.
Islestone Cottage is a converted farm building of local stone just outside Beadnell village, dog friendly, sleeping six, two dogs allowed. Stone walls enclose the ground at both the front and the back, and the rear garden alone runs to more than a quarter of an acre. Two of the three bedrooms are downstairs, which settles who sleeps where.
The lounge is large, a wood burner in it and enough seating that six people are not on top of each other, and behind it the kitchen and dining room has a table laid for eight. A king and a twin sit on the ground floor with the bathroom beside them, and that half of the house is the half the dogs will claim. The third is up a small staircase of its own with a wet room attached.
The trampoline is the thing nobody mentioned in advance and it has been in use since eleven. Both dogs have stationed themselves at the edge of it, uncertain whether this requires action. A quarter of an acre of walled grass means badminton and croquet are both out and neither finished. Somebody is lighting the barbecue without having been asked to.
Straight out from this coast, a couple of miles offshore, Inner Farne lies low on the water with a chapel on it raised over the cell where Cuthbert lived alone for eight years and died in 687. The tower beside it went up for the monks who kept the place after him. Beadnell bay is a few minutes down the road, and the island is what you look at from the sand while somebody throws something into the sea. Dogs are allowed on it whatever the season.
