Jock's Haven is a dog friendly cottage in Belford, a village with its own shops, pubs, restaurants and ice cream parlours, and with Bamburgh Castle and its beach only ten minutes away by car. Downstairs is all about gathering. In the lounge a wood burner effect electric fire glows in its feature fireplace, and double doors open through to a dining room that seats six; leave them open and the two rooms become one, with the dogs part of the company wherever they settle. The kitchen has French windows straight out to the garden, and the utility room, which keeps the washer and has space to stow two bikes, gives a second way out to it.
Outside, the garden table seats all six, and on a long evening it is where everyone ends up, plates out and both dogs sprawled underfoot after a day on the coast. Indoors, a shower room with a double headed shower is on the ground floor, and up the stairs are two doubles and a twin alongside a family bathroom, with games in the house for the nights in.
Belford sits well for the whole of this coast. Bamburgh has its castle, its beach and a superb village, Seahouses runs boat trips out to the Farne Islands, and Alnwick Castle, Holy Island and the Scottish border are all within easy reach by car. Inland, the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park are under twenty minutes away, with plenty of walking for the dogs.
