You come into the house through the garden. The front door at Knowehead Farmhouse opens off enclosed ground rather than a drive, which sounds like nothing until you arrive after dark with two dogs and realise that neither of them has to be held onto. It is a dog friendly period farmhouse for six near Biggar, with a mature enclosed garden and a summer house standing out in it.
Three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with one of each on the ground floor. The hall is generous, the lounge is bright, and a wood burner takes the evenings. Behind the house there is a courtyard with secure bike storage in it. This is working farm ground, and the country around Biggar is the upper Clyde: broad green valleys with the hills standing well back from them. Biggar itself is 1.5 miles off, a Royal Burgh with a puppet theatre, a gas works museum and a row of genuinely odd shops, which is more character than a town that size has any need for. The Clyde runs north from here towards Lanark, the hills climb south towards Moffat, and there is fishing close by. Two dogs, six people, and a farmhouse that makes the arithmetic easy.
