The tumble dryer is in the garage. So is the rest of the utility, which means everything that comes back off a Norfolk beach in a state can be dealt with in a building that is not the house, and no wet towel ever crosses a carpet to get there. Norfolk Cottage comes to five across three bedrooms at Heacham in Norfolk, a dog friendly cottage with two dogs allowed.

The garden runs enclosed on every side, and the kitchen and dining room open straight into it through doors of their own, so the last thing before bed is a door rather than a walk. The dining table looks into it as well. Out there a paved rear patio takes the furniture and sits inside the same boundary as the lawn, which is the arrangement two dogs want: one continuous piece of ground with no step between the parts of it.

Off the hall the kitchen and diner run as one, the lounge adjoining, and a separate WC downstairs takes the pressure off the single bathroom upstairs. That bathroom holds a bath, and a bath is worth more than it sounds when a sandy dog has to be lifted into one. Three bedrooms above are two doubles and a single.

The lavender fields start just outside the village. Norfolk Lavender keeps animals, a tearoom and a garden centre alongside them, and it opens through the year rather than only for the few weeks the rows are in colour. Two dogs get somewhere to go that is not the sand.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Norfolk Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Norfolk Cottage welcomes dogs — up to two at a time. The cottage has a fully enclosed garden with a paved patio and lawn running as one continuous space, which works well for dogs, and the utility room is located in the garage so sandy, wet kit from the beach can be sorted without it ever coming through the house.

  • Are dogs allowed at Norfolk Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nearby Norfolk Lavender — a good spot to take them beyond the beach — is open throughout the year rather than just during the lavender season. It's always worth confirming availability and any seasonal terms directly when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Norfolk Cottage with my dog?

The cottage allows a maximum of two dogs, and the garden is fully enclosed on every side, so you won't need to worry about escapes. There's a bath upstairs that comes into its own for washing off a sandy dog after a beach trip, and the garage utility means wet towels and muddy gear stay out of the main living space entirely.
