Old Mill Cottage Presteigne

Presteigne, Powys

A unique upside down cottage for three beside the former water mill in Presteigne, with a private enclosed patio, river views from the table and one sociable dog welcome.

Book now

Old Mill Cottage adjoins the former water mill in historic Presteigne, on the edge of a nature reserve beside the River Lugg, and it has been lovingly restored with exposed beams and interesting original features. Three guests and one friendly, sociable dog can call this dog friendly cottage theirs for the week.

This is upside down living. Hang up the coats in the hall, take off your boots and climb to the living space, where kitchen, lounge and dining table share one room and the table overlooks the river. A breakfast bar takes the quick meals, and a log burner, with logs to start it, makes for cosy nights in. The private enclosed patio opens straight off this room, with a picnic table and charcoal barbecue, so a dog can be out in the air whenever it wants.

Below are the double and the single, each with a lovely view in the morning, and the shower room. Thoughtful touches are everywhere, and evenings run to board games, a film or a novel, with the dog asleep by the burner, in what the owner rightly calls a special place.

Step out onto the adjoining footpath and the dog can explore the community orchard and the nature reserve from the door, with fishing in the river by arrangement with the owners. Presteigne's local produce, shops, eateries and festivals are on the doorstep, Offa's Dyke and Glyndwr's Way give longer walks, and Ludlow, Hay-on-Wye, Knighton, Croft Castle and the Shropshire Hills are all within easy reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Old Mill Cottage Presteigne dog friendly?

Yes, Old Mill Cottage welcomes one dog. The cottage has an enclosed guest garden, and the ground floor bedrooms sit at the same level as the garden door, so your dog doesn't have to navigate stairs to get outside.

  • Are dogs allowed at Old Mill Cottage Presteigne year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but it's always worth checking directly with the owners when you book to confirm availability for your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Old Mill Cottage Presteigne with my dog?

The owners live on site with their own dogs and cats, who may be in the owners' garden but never in the guest accommodation or the separate guest garden. There is also a beehive on the ground within the property, so it's worth being aware of that before you arrive. A settled dog should manage all of this without much fuss, but knowing in advance makes for a smoother start.
