Old Stable - Cirencester

Poole Keynes, Gloucestershire

A two bedroom stable conversion for four at Poole Keynes in the Cotswold Water Park, with an enclosed garden, a working farm around it and two dogs welcome.

There are more than 150 lakes within a few miles of this door, left behind by gravel workings and long since filled with water, birds and very little else. Old Stable is a two bedroom dog friendly conversion for four at Poole Keynes, in the middle of the Cotswold Water Park, with an enclosed garden and a working farm going on around it. The lakes will take two dogs further than a week allows, and there is not a hill among them.

The building was a stable and still reads like one, long and low with its doors on the yard side. Two bedrooms, both doubles, a single bathroom, and an enclosed garden the farm keeps clear of. Nothing passes the yard at night, which is most of the point of it: two dogs sleep through until the farm wakes them rather than a road.

An evening runs short here by design. The light leaves the water first and then the fields, the farm finishes whatever it was doing, and two dogs come in off the grass with their legs wet to the knee and give up somewhere near the door. Four people, two rooms, one table, and nobody with anywhere to drive home to.

Neigh Bridge, the nearest of the lakes with a path round it, takes about half an hour to walk and becomes the first outing of every morning by Tuesday. Beyond it more of them run on in every direction with tracks between, flat, sheltered and thick with waterfowl. Two dogs go on leads near the nesting edges and loose on the tracks, and can be given a long morning without a climb in it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Old Stable - Cirencester dog friendly?

Yes, Old Stable welcomes two dogs. The conversion has an enclosed garden, a quiet yard with no road traffic passing at night, and more than 150 lakes within a few miles offering flat, sheltered walking in every direction.

  • Are dogs allowed at Old Stable - Cirencester year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but it's always worth confirming directly with the owner before you book, particularly if you're planning a visit during spring nesting season when leads are required near the water's edge.

  • What should I know before visiting Old Stable - Cirencester with my dog?

The property accommodates two dogs, so it's not suitable for parties bringing more than that. Out on the walks, dogs should be kept on leads near the nesting edges of the lakes, though they can run loose on the tracks between them. Neigh Bridge lake, a short half-hour circuit, is right on the doorstep and is worth knowing about as an easy first outing.
