Eastgate, County Durham
A three bedroom house for six above Eastgate in Weardale, with two sitting rooms, a lawned enclosed garden and a hot tub under a gazebo, two dogs welcome.
Parcel Cottage stands just outside Eastgate in Weardale, high in the North Pennines, a dog friendly house for six, and two dogs are welcome in it. The hallway is the first sign somebody thought it through: coats down one side, boots down the other, and room to get a soaked dog out of a harness before it goes any further in.
Two sitting rooms is the real luxury. One has a wood burner with the sofas drawn round it. The other is a sunroom with glass running up to the vaulted ceiling and bi-fold doors onto the lawn, where a dog can lie in the light with the hills in front of it while somebody reads. The kitchen and dining room take the far side of the hall, a table for six and an island to lean on.
The hot tub sits under its gazebo at the top of the lawn and somebody has already claimed it. Both dogs have done their circuit of the garden, tested the fence and come back in to lie across the sunroom floor where the last of the light lands. The wood burner is going in the other room. Nobody has decided anything about dinner and nobody is hurrying.
Weardale is the quiet half of the North Pennines and a walker's dale before it is a tourist one. Stanhope is the nearest town, with a market place, a castle and somewhere to eat, and the moor road climbs out of the valley behind it. High Force and the Tees waterfalls are a drive south. Hamsterley Forest gives a dog forest track and few gates, and the fells above the village are open, high and mostly empty except for sheep.

Is Parcel Cottage dog friendly?
Yes, Parcel Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. The house has been set up with dogs genuinely in mind — there's a dedicated hallway with space for coats and boots on one side, and room to sort out a wet dog and their kit on the other before heading further inside.
Are dogs allowed at Parcel Cottage year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What's clear is that the cottage is fully set up for dogs whenever you stay, from the practical hallway to the enclosed lawned garden.
What should I know before visiting Parcel Cottage with my dog?
The garden is enclosed, which gives dogs the freedom to roam safely, and the sunroom with its bi-fold doors onto the lawn is a great spot for them to settle after a walk. The surrounding area is excellent for dog walking — Hamsterley Forest offers forest tracks with few gates, and the open fells above the village are quiet and spacious, though you'll want to be mindful of sheep on the higher ground.
