Pen Y Castell Barn

Llanrhystud, Ceredigion

A former bed and breakfast for eight above the Ceredigion coast, four bedrooms each with a bathroom, and an enclosed lawned garden with a picnic bench, two dogs welcome.

It used to be a bed and breakfast, which explains four bathrooms for four bedrooms. Pen Y Castell Barn stands in an elevated position in the Ceredigion countryside under 3 miles from the sea, a dog friendly barn for eight with an enclosed lawned garden and a picnic bench looking out over country towards the coast. Two dogs, and a view that does a good deal of the work.

The hallway leads down into a large open plan lounge and dining room with a leather three seater, a big corner sofa and a gas fire set into an original inglenook. The dining table takes eight. Off it sits a country kitchen equipped for a full house. Every bedroom having its own bathroom is the bed and breakfast inheritance, and it is the reason eight people and two dogs will get along here for a week.

The garden is a lawn with a picnic bench on it and a panorama running from farmland to the water. It is enclosed, so that bench becomes where the week actually happens: coffee in the morning with two dogs patrolling the boundary, and something longer in the evening as the light goes down over the sea. Elevated positions give views, and this one gives an unusually wide one.

Down in Llanrhystud there is a shop, a pub and a restaurant, and its beach is pebble with sand appearing at low tide, open to dogs. The Wales Coast Path can be joined there and walked in either direction. Penrhos Park golf course is close by and Aberaeron with its pastel terraces sits 6.8 miles south. Two dogs will do the coast path and the farm lanes in roughly equal measure.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Pen Y Castell Barn dog friendly?

Yes, Pen Y Castell Barn welcomes up to two dogs. The property has an enclosed lawned garden, so your dogs can roam freely outside while you take in the views across the Ceredigion countryside towards the coast.

  • Are dogs allowed at Pen Y Castell Barn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, though we'd recommend confirming directly with the owner when you book. What we can say is that the surrounding area — the Wales Coast Path, Llanrhystud beach, and the local farm lanes — offers good walking in most seasons.

  • What should I know before visiting Pen Y Castell Barn with my dog?

The property accepts two dogs, so it's worth confirming the arrangement with the owner if you're bringing more. The garden is enclosed, which makes life easier, and Llanrhystud beach nearby is open to dogs, with sand appearing at low tide — the Wales Coast Path can also be joined there and walked in either direction.
